RE: Reports: Chrysler, GM discuss merger,

DETROIT - The U.S. automotive sales slump worked its way to Janesville, Wis., Monday when General Motors Corp. told workers that it would cease operations at a sport utility vehicle factory there in December. GM spokesman Chris Lee said the plant, with 1,200 workers represented by the United Auto Workers, will be shuttered Dec. 23, earlier than GM had expected. GM announced in June that it would close Janesville and three other factories as demand for pickup trucks and SUVs waned, but the only time frame that was given was by 2010. The company announced earlier this month that another of those plants - the Moraine, Ohio, SUV factory - will close Dec. 23. On Friday, a person with knowledge of GM's plans said it could close more factories as early as this week to deal with slumping sales and the collapse in its stock price. The announcement was likely to include acceleration of the assembly plant closures, which also include factories in Oshawa, Ontario, and Toluca, Mexico. Forbes

RE: Diesel vs gas......................

My 2000 7.3 and 2003 6.0 PSD Excursions were great when diesel was cheaper than gas and the diesel option was about half the price of 2008 diesels. But the Excursion was too small and we sold it a year ago before the 6.0 PSD warranty ran out and that turned out to be a smart move.

RE: Your Fuel/Oil comments - please post here

The lower the price the more it hurts the middle eastern suppliers. Iran doesn't like. Can you imagine what they ("The Middle East") would do if we only used domestic oil and told them to Go Fish? Do you think China, India and all the other countries don't get oil from the middle east ? We imported 66.19% of our oil last year so how many years do you think it would take to stop importing oil ?

RE: Cheap fuel ????

Ran across this outfit the other day. Is anyone using this service ? and what type of response have you had. Thanks for your inputs. http://www.cheapgasonlinenow.com/?gclid=CIiQs87jgZYCFRs-awodWHOpFQ "This program is a scam, run by scam artists. DO NOT sign up. I am still trying to get my money back from this ... The website fails to tell you a lot of the conditions that are actually enforced on this "program". And they hide the real details until after you pay and get the voucher. For instance the website fails to tell you that there is a monthly limit to how much you will get a voucher for. In the case of the $60 gas club card. The website leads you to believe you buy pay $40 for a $60 gas club card, and then send in receipts for $60 worth of fuel and will be sent a check for $60. The problem is.. when you get the club card, there are 18 terms and conditions that were not given to you on the website. The very first of these terms is that you can only get reimbursed $10 a month. (this is all for the $60 card. for the larger amount cards the monthly limit may be higher, but be assured it will not be close to the face value of the card.) So in the $60 card instance, it would take you 6 months to get your money back... IF you get your money. The other 17 terms listed on the voucher list 17 ways that the company can get out of paying you the refund you are owed. The voucher is a Jpeg image you have to print. This prevents me from copying out all of the bogus terms unless I retype them all. Then again.. I am annoyed, so I will do just that. The terms are: 1 - This offer is good for up to $10 in gas rebates. 2 - Gas registration is only redeemable when all requirements have been met. (What requirements????? to what is this referring even... so allthey do is claim you didn't meet the requirements and poof you get no money) 3 - Only the original registration form will be accepted, and it must be mailed in by the original certificate holder. No photcopies or duplicates will be accepted. (thats funny since it is an image file, I could print the thing a million times... how do they know which is the original... OHH thats right they just claim none of them are the original and you get no money) 4 - Only one (1) voucher may be redeemed per person per address. (so when I get the voucher for the second month, does this mean I can't claim it??? more grey area to avoid paying) 5 - Only original machine printed gas (leaded, unleaded, or diesel) sales receipts with a legible machine printed date from a fuel retailer will be accepted. (the web page says ethanol as well... and this seems to mean ethanol will not be redeemed.... ) 6 - The maximum rebate voucher value per month is $10. Original receipts or under $10 will only be fulfilled at face value. Qualifying receipts over $10 will be worth $10. No future credit will be issued or accrued. (so if you sent in a receipt under $10, then you would only get that amount back, and you loose the difference, and NEVER get it back. Likely this clause is for the larger amount gas cards if they allow you to buy larger amounts per month... another way to not give you the money..) Ok I think you get the point.. let me throw out a few other ones that really make this obvious.. 12 - The rebate vouchers will not be replaced if stolen or misplaced. (ok how does this even make sense when I print it on my printer... But if you look at it another way, its just another way they are trying to steal your money... I mean my hard drive crashes and you wont give me the vouchers I already paid for.... ) And the Biggie!!!! 13 - Incomplete, illegible, or non-compliant submissions will not be acknowledged, processed, or returned. No replacements will be issued. Ok so lets say you accidentally mail in one of your vouchers a week early, and have 2 vouchers hit their office the same month. You now have lost 1 months worth of value. OK, now lets say they don't like your handwritting, poof you have an illegible one... I didn't type it out but another term says allow 4-6 weeks for processing... so with that delay it would be hard even tracking what you got and what you didn't get making this clause 13 a real killer. This offer comes down to this... The scam here is that you could if you do everything right get the value out of the card... BUT the terms make it very possible for something to be wrong with a voucher and then you loose the value of that voucher. In the $60 card case, at $10 a month. you need 4 months to make your money back. They are banking on you not even remembering to deal with this after 4 months. If they even honor the vouchers... (which I have shown would be easy for them, even following the terms to not honor some of the vouchers) ---------------------------------- Additionally this has occured - After I placed my order, I got the voucher and looked at it. I carefully read the terms, and they did not match my perception of the program from the webpage, then I looked at all the loopholes where they could keep my money, and I went NO WAY. I immediately called and tried to get a refund. As I did not agree to the terms this is well within my rights. I got the run around for 3 hours, between a phone conversation that was a sales pitch, and the email trail of 15 emails. They still have not refunded my money. They are now saying to get a refund I have to snail mail them the voucher, so they wont process it for anyone. This is another tactic to try to make me forget about it while the mail is being delivered. There is a unique code on the voucher. Why can't they just mark the code in their recrds as being NULL and VOID? I could have printed a million copies a mailed copy means nothing. I called him out on this and then he says in email, "My program has been scrutinized by the FDA" WHAT??? THE FDA cares about a gas rebate program... NO this is just trying to throw some weight around... I have them dead to rights, and I will be exposing this to every outlet I can... Hence how I found this questions and am answering it."

RE: Diesel vs gas......................

Today: gas $2.959, doesel $3.699 at the same station. Of course, the diesel getting 25-100% better mileage easily cancels out the price difference. The last time I checked the diesel option on new trucks was around $8,000. You could buy alot of gas for $8,000.

RE: Diesel vs gas......................

$2.959 for regular, $3.619 for diesel here. As usual, 8.1 is trolling again, trying to convince himself his gas-hog van was a wise idea. Selling my 6.0 PSD for $24,500 a year ago when diesel was cheaper than gas was the smartest move I ever made. Today the lowest price reg unl gas is $2.30 and diesel is $3.39 so the 45% increase in fuel price wipes out the the 30-35% better mpg and extra cost of a diesel.
